Risk context
Motor cover is the class where a small inaccuracy in the proposal, such as mileage, overnight location or who actually drives the car, has the largest effect on whether a claim is paid without argument.
Where a household runs several vehicles, or a vehicle is used partly for work, the right structure is not always separate private policies.
Concepts that appear in this class
- Class of use
- Social use, commuting and business use are separate categories. Using a vehicle outside the stated class can affect a claim.
- Level of cover
- Third party, third party fire and theft, and comprehensive describe different scopes. Comprehensive is not a synonym for unlimited.
- Named drivers
- Who may drive, and on what basis, is defined in the policy schedule rather than assumed.
- Modifications
- Changes to a vehicle from manufacturer specification are normally disclosable, including non-performance changes.
These are general descriptions of terms commonly used in this class of insurance. They do not describe your policy. Whether any of them apply, and on what terms, is determined by the wording, schedule and endorsements issued to you.
